Day 3 - April 10, 2007

Breakfast
I stopped for breakfast at 100% Natural. They have good fruit smoothies, but I packed a lunch for today (Ham and Manchego cheese).

Spanish Immersion Class
Verbs are still insane. Our teacher isn´t very good at explaining and sometimes we have to correct HIM! We did an activity today that made it a little easier to understand. We also worked on numbers.

Class Mates
Everyone is so nice, but we don´t get to hang out together as much as we would like (or probably should). Tabatha paid in advance for a food package through the school, so she has to eat breakfast and dinner there. Jane is living in a residence and she also has to eat breakfast and dinner there. I´m getting beach passes for all of us through the condo owner (it´s the least he can do).

The girls are constanty amazed at how I meet people.

Weather
The weather has been beautiful. It seemed hotter today, but now it seems like it might rain. I haven´t turned on the T.V. yet, so I am not sure what the forecast is. Good news...it did not rain.

Homework
My brain is not working too well. How can I still remember the prepositions in alphabetical order from grammar school (Mrs. Aebersold´s class) but not understand this verb thing?! Argggh! I went down by the ferry dock again to practice and work on my assignments. I was so tired, that I fell asleep on the bench. I woke up when one of the reps showed up to sell tours and then he helped me a little.

Dinner
I walked to H.C. Monterrey. The walk was a little sketchy, but it really wasn´t far from where I´m staying. It´s a local Butcher Shop that also serves dinner and it was incredible. For $8.00, I got steak, tortillas, potato, avocado, and a drink. The people sitting next to me were Americans (but everyone else was local). I guessed that they had to be Trip Advisor members if they were there because I got the recommendation for that restaurant from TA. Sure enough, they were. They were from California and staying at Luna Blue (they also used to live in Streamwood, IL a long time ago). They didn´t know how to get back, so I walked back with them and showed them the way.

Fun
I shopped more around town trying to practice my Spanish. I bought a really cute skirt (my first purchase).

A cute guy named Alex asked me to go to dinner with him, but after the whole ¨sankie¨experience, I decided it was best to say ¨no.¨

I met Hugo at 10:00 at Starbucks again and he checked over my homework assignment. We were going to go to the Mambo Cafe for Salsa dancing (yes, Mandy & Sarah, I was a little concerned about my dance steps...they are as good as my Spanish. LOL). Anyhow, he wanted to wait till around 11:30 when more people would be there, but with class, I didn´t want to stay out that late. (Dennis, if you´re reading this blog, I want you to know that I didn´t wear the Madonna outfit.)

P.S. I got a tattoo.

Hey MJ!

Sounds like you're doing really well, using all the resources at hand! Good job! Bummer about the flight delays, I bet you were totally exhausted.

I told Will where you are and he's really jealous. He's fighting hard to get an A in his Spanish class - he currently has a 89.9%, and he just doesn't use the language, so he says it's very hard for him to learn.

Be careful walking around so late at night! Have fun and we'll see you soon.

We are having lunch the day you come back...right?

Megan got her glasses today from your mom. She is excited to wear them. You are definitely resourceful and sounds like you are having fun. I'm glad to hear that. Just being able to use what you are learning as you learn it is so helpful. Quiero el sol en Illinois. No nieve.

Hi Mary Jo
I am so excited that I can hear about your experiences even before you come home. Don't stress about learning all the verb endings in Spanish. Your main goal should not be on the specific grammar points of the language but on soaking up as much vocabulary and culture as you can. Try and pick up a newspaper and try reading everyday. Reading in a second language is the easiest aspect of a language to acquire. I can't wait to hear more from you tomorrow!

Hi Mary Jo!

Sounds like you're having fun - I'm having fun reading about your adventures. Keep the postings going!

Take care and travel safe!!!

Cheryl, you should remind Will that he can have adventures like this too if he postpones the wedding plans. We´ll definitely have lunch.

Deanna, the newspaper is a great idea. I wanted to watch some T.V. too, but I don´t want to sit in the condo. I can take the newspaper to the beach.

We really want to know what the tattoo is of! Dave is betting on a salamander holding a Mexican flag.

I was just kidding about the tattoo.
