Adios Spanish Lessons!

It never fails! I'm never going to learn Spanish (unless I live in Mexico).

Jenny asked me to come to New York for business, and one week turned into two weeks! Mid-day Spanish lessons just don't fit into my work schedule. Boo hoo! :(

June 3 - Day 2: Mano a Mano

Today was my 2nd class at Mano a Mano!

Noon
Kristen said that we could arrive at noon instead of 12:30 p.m. if we wanted to just talk to each other and practice. Cynthia and I were the only ones who arrived early.

Kristen and Cynthia ate their lunches, but I ate mine before I got there. Kristen and Cynthia could really hold a conversation, but I just look at them like, "what the heck are you saying?" Kristen said it's the best way to learn.

El Estudiantes
No one else showed up, so we began class. Kristen reviewed our test results, and I was frightened, but didn't do too badly. I guess I understand a lot more when it's written out.

Donna
Donna is another student who was in a previous class, and she showed up late. She rents apartments in Waukegan and Zion, so that's why she wants to brush up on her Spanish, but she's had 9 years of it! She can read and comprehend very well.

Curriculum
Today we went over nouns and adjectives. We also practiced numbers. We even got a short assignment to complete. I finished mine already.

All I can say is la, la, la, el, el, el!!!

June 1 - Day 1: Mano a Mano

Besides myself, there was a lady named Lisa who works at the Round Lake Library. She has 5 kids and a Mexican husband. Then, there is Cynthia, who is a Volunteer Firefighter in Fox Lake (and she also lives in Fox Lake). Cynthia's father is also a student. His name is George, and he lives in Fox Lake too, and he writes brochures for an Industrial company.

La Maestra
Our Teacher's name is Kristen. She is a Volunteer at Mano a Mano, and is going into her last year of college. For her last year, she is going to be splitting her time between Martinique and Chile because she is a French and Spanish major.

Class
We had introductions, a short test so that Kristen knew how advanced we were (LOL), and we also practiced some conversations. Cynthia and George have attended classes before, so they are pretty fluent. Cynthia can speak in sentences.

Difficil
Learning a language is very difficult. I do think it is easier learning from someone who can explain things in English, however.

Mano a Mano

I'm so excited! When I was laid off from Hewitt, I registered for Spanish classes at Mano a Mano, but I was put on a wait list. They called me yesterday, and said that I will start Monday, June 1st.

Classes will be Monday & Wednesdays from 12:00-2:30 for 2 months at a measly cost of $20.00!

I hope I can learn more Spanish than I have so far. I don't even have time at home to do it on my own, so this will be good. Although the timing is a little off! I would have liked it better when I was first RIF'd. Now, dad is coming home from rehabilitation on Tuesday, and mom is having issues with her spine. But, it's always something.

I can't wait to impress my friends in Mexico with my new Spanish!

Hewitt Associates

Hewitt eliminated 200+ jobs the other day, including mine.

This might allow me the opportunity to head down to Mexico again for a few weeks this winter to practice my Spanish.

As they say, "when one door closes, another one opens."

Rosetta Stone

Yesterday, on my way home from work, I heard a commercial for a free CD demonstrating how the Rosetta Stone language program works, so I ordered it.

They claim it works differently and more effectively than other programs and I sure hope so!

I'm Off to Mexico Again!

I'm going to Mexico again on Friday, April 18th and am trying to freshen up on my Spanish. Cramming, actually!

I've been reading the Charles Berlitz Passport to Spanish and practicing online with the studyspanishonline.com site as well.

I really wish I had time just to devote to my Spanish, but I wouldn't get much else done. I'm still hoping that I will get to go there for at least 3 months because that will help tremendously.

Back to my studying now!
